PRESIDENT
– Preside at meetings, appoint
committee chairs or project managers
or liaisons, serves as first
delegate to AHIMA House of
Delegates, motivates and leads Board
of Directors in completing business
of the associations, represents
IHIMA board to the membership. Is
an executive voting member.
Attends AHIMA’s Leadership
Conference/Team Talks as a
representative of IHIMA.
PRESIDENT-ELECT – Performs
duties of President in her/his
absence, responsible for bylaw
updates, serves as second delegate
to AHIMA House of Delegates,
appoints the chair of the nominating
committee from those elected,
performs duties assigned by the
President. Serves as a contact
person for IHIMA Districts.
Communicates to membership to
educate and elicit input on matters
of business. Is an executive
voting member. Attends AHIMA’s
Leadership Conference/Team Talks as
a representative of IHIMA.
PAST-PRESIDENT – Assists with
preparation of the budget, serves as
a delegate to AHIMA House of
Delegates. Performs other duties as
assigned by President or Board of
Directors. Serves as contact person
for IHIMA Districts. Communicates
and educates membership on matters
of business. Is an executive
voting member. Attends AHIMA’s
Team Talks as a representative of
IHIMA.
SECRETARY
– Keeps permanent record of
meetings, responsible for
correspondence of the associations,
prepares notice of the Board of
Director’s meetings, maintains
membership list as updated by AHIMA.
Sends out letter of welcome and
associated paperwork to new members.
Performs other duties as directed by
the President. Serves as member of
IHIMA Distinguished Member Award
Committee. Is an executive voting
member.
TREASURER
– Has charge of funds of the
association, presents written
financial reports at each Board
meeting, renders an annual report,
submits books and records for audit
annually. Prepares annual budget in
conjunction with Past President.
Is an executive voting member.
DIRECTORS
– Communicates and educates
membership on matters of business.
First Year Director assists second
year director in planning annual
meeting and coordinates vendors at
the annual meeting. Second Year
Director chairs the planning
committee for the annual meeting and
coordinates the annual meeting.
Is an executive voting member.
DELEGATES
– Serves as an advocate for the
association by remaining
knowledgeable on activities,
concerns, and issues and goals. May
attend district meetings within the
state in order to obtain member
input on issues and to serves as a
resource to the members. Shares
members comments, opinions, and
concerns with the Board. Writes
articles for newsletter or CoP to
keep members informed and to
stimulate interest. Attends AHIMA
House of Delegates. Is an
executive voting member. Attends
AHIMA Team Talks. Reports AHIMA
House of Delegates votes and
rationale to IHIMA Board and
membership. Serves as member of
IHIMA Distinguished Member Award
Committee. Second Year Delegate
serves as Scholarship Committee
Chairperson and coordinates
continuing education fund awards.
LIAISONS/COMMITTEE CHAIRS –
Serves as a representative of
his/her special area of interest
with the Board of Directors
informing them of issues of
concerns, change and importance in
regard to their specialty. Is a
resource person for the membership.
May attend IHIMA District meetings.
Contributes articles for the
newsletter and CoP pertinent to
their field.

Nominating Committee – Solicits and prepares ballot for
approval, informs President and President-Elect of results.

Newsletter Committee – Coordinates the publication of the
association newsletter at least three times yearly. Solicits articles and
information of interest to the membership.

CoP/Communications Committee – Coordinates the maintenance of
the IHIMA and IHIMA Board Communities of Practice websites and the IHIMA
website.

Recruitment/Marketing – Promotes profession to potential
students by working with colleges, high schools, career fairs and other methods
of recruitment, assists with recognition of board, members, students, speakers
and special guests at annual meeting. Coordinates the Distinguished Member
Award. Coordinates HI&T Week Proclamation signing with Governor’s Office.

Legislative – Serves as contact person for IHIMA on issues of
legal importance to membership, coordinates legal handbook update and sales,
assists in developing IHIMA’s position on legislative issues that affect the HIM
profession.

Education – Promotes student development, reports on educational
program activity, coordinates credential review workshop, communicates HIM
program content requirements, reports on Assembly on Education activity.

IHA – Informs members of activity of the Iowa Hospital
Association and their activity as it relates to areas of concern for the
membership. Serves as a resource person for the membership.

Society of Clinical Coding – Reports on activity in the Coding
Society. Serves as state Roundtable Coordinator. Is an advocate for adherence to
coding policy and procedures with third party payors in relationship to LMRPs
and NCDs.

Long Term Care – Reports and informs on issues of importance
that affect long-term care and health information in that arena. Keeps the Board
aware of changes in prospective payment issues and other regulatory guidelines
in long-term care.

IFMC – Reports on quality improvement projects, PEPP and other
initiatives that affect the membership. Is a resource person to the Board and
members on peer review activity.

APC – Informs and educates the Board on the outpatient
prospective payment system. Represents the association in activities related to
APCs.

Ambulatory Care Section – Reports on activity in the ACS section
of AHIMA. Informs and educates the Board on new developments.
